Description ben 2005-02-04 10:03:11 UTC
This is a rather minor bug but an anoying one. I can log in with GDM having the display that I want to have set, that is 1152x864. I have the option selected in xorg.conf that I don't want to have a virtual screan enabled. I log out and see the GDM display however it is now in 1024x768 and the task bar to shutdown is in a "virtual" screan where I can click with my mouse past what I can see and it will click the buttons fine.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start up GDM, GDM works fine and the display is fine
2.Log out into GDM and GDM has a screan rez of 1024x768
3.

Actual Results:
everything works fine except you can't see any of the task bars

Expected Results:
resized itself to fit my desired screan rez

you fail to mention your X11 version & provide your 'emerge info' (read the bugreport form!)

Anyway, i very much doubt this is a GDM problem, GDM has nothing todo with your X11 setup.

need more info from reporter, no response.

I think I may help some, as I too am getting the same issue. First off, this
isn't limited to x86, as it also affects amd64 systems too. I would also like
to make a comment, that this is limited to that small of resolution difference.
As it is going from a default setting of 1024x768, down to either 640x480 or
smaller (I strongly think less then that, on a non standard resolution of 400x
by something). The issue also isn't going by the x11 resolution settings for
the monitor either in some instances, as the lowest setting I set my monitor to
allow is 800x600. below is my emerge info, x11 version, possible explaination
of what it is exactly doing, and a small workaround.

From what I believe that it is doing is, gdm is not re-adjusting the screen
resoultion properly, after the first login; while using the same theme
resolution information; and cropping the unshown information.

I hope I didn't confuse you more on what I mean by that, if so ignore that part.

Small workaround:
This is not a perferred work around, as it slows the system down on every login,
after the first.

in the /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf file; change AlwaysRestartServer to true.
