Description Roie Kerstein 2005-02-02 12:38:51 UTC
This is a very wierd problem.
I've just upgraded alsa to version 1.0.8, and ever since I hear white noise, whtether or not the soundcard is in use.
I tried to play around with the mixer, and disabling the microphone boost seems to solve the problem. However, this is a nasty bug, as I *need* the microphone boost.
For some reason, when I touch the microphone the noise is much weaker, and when I put it away from the screen the noise is also weaker, but still persists.
It did not happen with previous versions of alsa.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Expected Results:
white noise should not be heard

This doesn't sound like a bug to me. Are you sure you din't hear the noise with 1.0.7?
Comment 2 Roie Kerstein 2005-02-10 07:20:38 UTC
100% sure.
Comment 3 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-10 16:31:44 UTC
ok, well I'm assuming when you mean alsa here, you mean alsa-drivers as this shouldn't be dependent on the libs. Was this present in alsa-drivers-1.0.8_rc1? You'll probably find better help upstream as I can't reproduce this problem =(

Could you file a bug at www.alsa-project.org and report the bug number to me so I can track it, thanks.
Comment 4 Roie Kerstein 2005-02-10 16:39:27 UTC
Frankly, I think it does have something to do with alsa-lib.
This is because I did not even emerge alsa-driver - I use the module that is supplied with the kernel.

Ok, well please file a bug upstream and report the bug number her, so I can follow it. Thanks.
