Description Michael Cummings (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-02-02 03:13:31 UTC
Why does the ebuild for bugzilla depend on the Data-Dumper ebuild? The docs for bugzilla say it can use any version:

grep Dumper Bugzilla-Guide.txt
    3. Data::Dumper (any)

The problem is that that ebuild was introduced many moons ago and is now extremely outdated. Every installation of perl comes with a newer version of Data-Dumper than that ebuild can provide, and the module is no longer offered upstream outside of the main perl install (it's *that* core a module, not too often you see that). I'd like to remove the ebuild completely from the tree, but I see that you've removed DD then added it back again in the ebuilds. Any reasons that the core perl version (newer) doesn't work?

Anyone? Anyone? I'd really like to remove this dep from the tree.

Let me take a look at this. I may even ask Ben Coles (sj7trunks) about it. He used to maintain it when he was a dev.

we can bump this ebuild off, i created it when data dumper wasn't in perl core.

Cheers!

So who gets to be the bad guy and remove the dep? :) I can do it when I remove Data-Dumper, just give the word.

done, just slow to act :)
