Sylpheed silently fails to send to some email addresses. It appears to have sent successfully, but the email doesn't appear in the recipient's mailbox. A reproducible example is sending to a hushmail.com account. When sending from Pine, the email arrives fine When sending from Sylpheed-claws, it simply doesn't get there. There are many email addresses where this happens, not just hushmail.com. For example, the mail redirectors supplied with Sourceforge user accounts. As far as Sylpheed-claws is concerned, the email gets sent - but it never arrives. I don't even get a bounce message. I've tried setting the Sylpheed account to send via smtp through 3 different SMTP accounts, including a commercial ISP. I've also set the sylpheed account to send via local 'mail' command. Failure in all cases. Needless to say, this has had a cruel effect on my relations with online associates. People have not received my emails, which in some cases has caused me to lose work. What stopped me from realising the problem is that many emails were actually getting through. It's only with certain destination email servers that problems occur. I'd recommend you pull sylpheed-claws from the Gentoo distribution till this is fixed - this is a critical and catastrophic bug. There's nothing worse than not being able to trust that email is actually getting sent!

That said, you use any bleeding edge version software at your own risk. Might I suggest you switch to sylpheed or balsa or evolution instead? I can not pull this package from portage, as many users use sylpheed-claws knowing the possibility of failures with it.. I would suggest you file a bug with the sylpheed-claws upstream folks.
