Trying to sync portage some times results with time out. Subsequent attempt with different ip completes w/o problem. The affected server is located at 160.116.15.34 I'm connecting through a vpn, no other clients are connecting to it, i only use that. Also no other gentoo system running directly on server too. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run emerge --sync (it would use emaint as of later portage version) 2. If resolved ip is 160.116.15.34 observe sync failure, otherwise try again later (~1 day or more) untill you get this ip 3. Got the reported IP again. Always a timeout. Other ip's work fine.
where are you located? Location & ISP please. Can you please include a traceroute AND mtr output going to 160.116.15.34? I've seen some weird things with routing to that system, esp. as it's the only server we have in Israel. I can reach it fine (From Vancouver Canada), but I suspect there may be routing interactions you're seeing.
