News Grab is a XML rss reader that displays the titles of each news item with a small description, and the date it was posted up. You are also able to scroll through all news items either by using the mouse wheel or by clicking on the up or down arrows. 

Tested on x86

Thanks for the submission, but an ebuild for desklet-newsgrab is already in portage (sorry I didn't close this when I did it last night).
