what are the specs of the system ?
if its an older one, try running CPU Burn and MEMTest86 on it
Comment 2 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-16 01:14:45 UTC
P 166 MMX
Gigabyte Board
64 MB Ram
8,4 GB IDE Harddisk

Progeny Linux was running wonderfull on this machine, but it has been stoped.

So i wanted to install gentoo (much better ;)
Comment 3 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-16 13:11:45 UTC
memtest86 3.0 works fine

i've changed mainboard, cpu and tried it again
