Description Leonard Khoo 2005-01-26 09:39:13 UTC
I am running a complete ~x86 system. I was using alsa-lib-1.0.8-rc1, alsa-utils-1.07 and alsa-headers-1.0.8-rc1 before I updated all three to 1.0.8.

I am running 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 and 2.6.10-ck5 both comes with alsa-1.0.6. I compile my alsa drivers into the kernel instead of modules. This setup has been working fine for months. I also tried 2.6.10-morph17 which comes with alsa-1.0.8 drivers.
I have tried compiling the alsa drivers as modules for 2.6.10-gentoo-r6, the modules and mixer level loaded fine. Still no sound.

I tried downgrading alsa-util, alsa-lib, alsa-headers to 1.0.7 and 1.0.6. All of them gives me the same result. No sound.

I have checked the /etc/modules.d/alsa and did a 'modules-update' and '/etc/init.d/alsasound restart' and also checked 'alsamixer'. Everything looks good, but no sound.

I don't use any sound daemons as I have hardware mixing with audigy, so my KDE is compiled without artsd. I tried playing sound with xine, mplayer and also bmp. I also tried ' aplay music.wav '. Non of them produces any sound.

I booted into windows and sound works. So its not a hardware problem.

This is from my lspci:

0000:00:0e.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Creative Labs SB Audigy FireWire Port

This is my /etc/modules.d/alsa:
root@homer /etc/modules.d $ cat alsa
# Alsa 0.9.X kernel modules' configuration file.
