Description piotr5 2021-05-27 21:02:56 UTC
after upgrading to 3.0.14 kde wont start vlc and from command-line the dbus, none interface is used with console-default gui. vlc -vv --intf qt wont work even though vlc -l does list all 3 qt modules. downgrading to 3.0.12.1-r100 (which still is marked stable too) solves all these problems. please confirm, could be a fluke? I have masked the broken version for myself!

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. upgrade
2. start vlc -vv on commandline, ctrl-c or "quit" to abort

Actual Results:
commandline interface

Expected Results:
qt-gui

I'm shortly after profile upgrade, so many things could have gone wrong. after switching profile vlc worked, but not anymore after upgrading it lateron. since it didn't work I did
emerge -v1 `qdepends -i vlc |sed -s 's/[^:]*://'`
and that didn't help either. downgrading took just the single compilation and suddenly everything works again.

I can't readily see anything wrong with the gui for 3.0.14

Could you provide output of `emerge --info media-video/vlc`, if you could the successful build.log for 3.0.14 have some hints too.

No error notable error messages when you launch it?

I can't reproduce it here.
It sounds like it is a half done profile (10 --> 17.1) migration? See https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1136064.html

Sorry, half done profile (17.0 --> 17.1) migration was meant.

Please re-open after providing more information that could help us figure out what happened (see comment #1, or anything else that could give hints).

But incorrect profile migration does sound like a possible culprit, in which case support venues would be more appropriate:
