I just downloaded acrobat 5.0.10 (latest version) from the adobe acrobat website. it installs and runs just fine on amd64. in the portage tree, acroread is masked by -* regards, /iaw Portage 2.0.51-r14 (default-linux/amd64/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.9-gentoo-r12 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r12 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4 [2.3.4 (#1, Oct 28 2004, 08:02:56)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r5 sys-devel/automake: 1.8.5-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.2-r7 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X acpi alsa berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups curl dvd dvdr emul-linux-x86 esd f77 fam fbcon flac font-server foomaticdb fortran g77 gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk imlib ipv6 java jp2 jpeg kde libwww lzw lzw-tiff motif mozilla mpeg multilib ncurses nls opengl oss pam perl png python qt readline ssl tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts usb userlocales xml xml2 xmms xpm xrandr xv zlib" Unset: ASFLAGS, CBUILD, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
app-text/acroread-5.10 is marked ~amd64 already, but thanks anyway.
sorry, one more minor issue on version counting. I just checked again. are you sure you have your version right? when I go to the acrobat reader website, it tells me that 5.0.10 is the latest version, not 5.10. (the reader itself also identifies itself as such.) of course, it could just be that their website is screwed up and leads me to an older version. regards, /iaw
the previous version was added as 5.09, 5.010 wouldn't be higher and since it was a security bug, it became 5.10
