Alex Deucher has added a patch to upstream xorg-x11 CVS HEAD which adds an option to enable BIOS hotkeys for switching video output on radeon graphic cards. I have verified that this patch works with my IBM ThinkPad X31 and x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4, and I would love to see this patch included in the Gentoo xorg-x11 patch set. The upstream bug is: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2000 The patch in questions is: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=1478
Could you check whether it applies cleanly against our 6.8.1.902, and supply a clean one if it doesn't?
Will do.
Created attachment 49271 [details, diff] Patch against xorg-x11-6.8.1.902 This patch applies cleanly against xorg-x11-6.8.1.902.
Created attachment 49298 [details, diff] 5170_all_head-radeon-bioskeys.patch This patch actually applies against xorg-x11-6.8.1.902 including the patches currently in portage. I am not sure of the naming of the patch: I chose '5170' to make the patch apply after the other patches which affect the radeon driver, 'all' since it should be applied for all archs - but I am not sure what the next element (head) is supposed to indicate?
Added to 6.8.1.904.
Would this apply to the generic ati driver as well? I just commented in fd.o #2000 that this problem happens on my Rage-based Thinkpad A21e (6.8.0-r3 currently)
No, this only applies to the 'radeon' driver.
