Hi I'm trying to install Gentoo on my AMD64. I'm using an ABIT AV8 motherboard.. For some reason, my interner will not work (even though i've done a modprobe via-velocity with no problems, and ifconfig shows my eth0 device just like the install HOWTO says it should!) Yet ping yahoo.com, etc. still fail right away.. I did some looking around on the internet, and one person said it would not work until kernel 2.6.9 or higher was used, so I downloaded 2.6.10 to my windows partition and rebooted into linux, compiled and copied it to /boot (all using my Universal LiveCD) Now, right when I'm ready to finally try booting into Linux, I see that there is NO GRUB included on this supposed "universal" livecd, and since I am doing this with no network, it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to emerge grub or anything.. I tried downloading a grub tar in windows and unpacking it Linux, but when I run ./configure it says UNKNOWN ARCH x86_64-unknown-pc or something along those lines!! I AM GOING CRAZY. Please respond!!
If ths is your installed system, then it is beyond the control of the livecd team. Did you copy the distfiles from the universal CD to your /usr/portage/distfiles folder and try to emerge grub? It has all the necessary distfiles already. Also, the InstallCD used kernel 2.6.9, so don't beleive everything you hear.
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this.
