Description Peter Hüwe 2005-01-20 09:52:51 UTC
Hi,
I updated the streamripper ebuild, as portage only contains the version 1.60.10 as 'latest' version, but sourceforge tells something different:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6172

So consequently I used the 1.60.ebuild as a role model and uncommented the patch line and the mirror line.

It is 'my' first ebuild, but at least it works on my machine... so please check it before using... ;-)

^-^

I would like to see this, as well. The program underwent a
major upgrade (including support for ogg streams) at 1.61.1.

Thanks.

I emerged it and it works. Should be put into Portage
Comment 5 Peter Hüwe 2005-03-29 06:51:01 UTC
Hi,
there is still no 1.61 version in portage :/ !!!
And there are even two new streamripper releases!
-->I modified my 1.61.3 ebuild so that it fits the sourceforge structure (the author of streamripper now manages all of his downloads via sf) and that it it now compiles the 1.61.5 version of it!

The 1.61.5 has new features and improvements.

the streamripper-1.61.5.ebuild

update
--> please have a second look at it and then add it to portage!

thank you

p.s.: please modify the 'src_uri' to make it fit better the sf.net download
system.

haha, sorry guys but this : http://packages.gentoo.org/ebuilds/?streamripper-1.61.1
is a bad joke?!?
After 5 months that the 1.61.1 version was released, somebody got the idea to release the 1.61.1 version, even if there are 4 _newer_ Versions and even 2 existing ebuilds?!?
Sorry, but it seems that the 'Gentoo Sound Team' gives just a ... about what is written here.
Sorry but I'm really disappointed, about this!
Comment 8 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-04 11:08:47 UTC
Sorry about that -- I misread the site, 1.61.5 is being added now.

I'm not on the G2 sound team, they haven't apparently even looked at this...
Comment 9 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-04 11:10:04 UTC
The ebuild linked to this bug does not look correct to me.
Comment 10 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-04 11:11:57 UTC
I would appreciate you not being so offensive in your comments. Everyone at Gentoo does their best to keep Gentoo great, but that's a lot of work, and not nearly as easy as you perhaps presume.

Please check the new CVS vesion just committed and quitcherbitchin.

Hi Brandon,
I'm sorry for being so rude, but I was a little bit enraged, sorry, but you have to admit that it is quite disappointing if you want to commit to this great distribution and then beeing completely ignored.

I want to thank you for adding the 1.61.x version as it is an real improvement.
The 1.61.3 ebuild worked fine for me and 4 other people and the 1.61.5 compiled as well :).
I must admit I'm no big ebuild writer (it's my first one ;) and consequently I just modified the old version.

But what is wrong with my ebuilds?
Comment 13 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-04 11:51:02 UTC
yes, they work fine -- there are a couple things wrong
the first is just formatting, all kinds of weird spacing going on
the second is the significant extra work you go through in disabling the internal libmad -- see my ebuild for the more effective way to disable it.

I understand your frustration with how long it takes us to get things into the tree sometimes, but do bear in mind that none of us do this full time -- I'm at my full time job as I work on this, so I can't exactly spend a lot of tim eon it. Your contributions are appreciated, and if you keep writing ebiulds and improve on them, hopefully you can join our team and help to keep things up-to-date.
Comment 14 Peter Hüwe 2005-04-04 12:10:02 UTC
wow, this was fast ;-)
Thank you for your hints.
About the formating: lalalala... ;-) I knew this, but I was too lazy to change it ;-) Sorry, but I remember it for the next time.

and the libmad thing: It wasn't my fault as I c&p the 1.60 ebuild ;-)
