When I post an answer article to a newsgroups (inn-2.4.1) with mozilla-thunderbird-1.0 over NNTP with SSL, the sending dialog hangs nearly every time. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge mozilla-thunderbird 2. setup a news account with SSL, subscribe to a newsgroup 3. send one or more answer postings to the newsgroup Actual Results: The sending dialog hangs. Expected Results: The message should be sent normally, as with NNTP without SSL. After canceling the transmission of the answer article and restarting Thunderbird, the article appears on the server. Only posting an article, that opens a new thread, works like it should. I tried to emerge with "-crypt" and I tried the bin-Ebuild, but that didn't help. A very similar problem is mentioned at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253523 But for some friends posting answer articles with Thunderbird 1.0 over NNTP/SSL works (Debian Linux) well, it also does with my TB 1.0 and Outlook Express on Windos. ---- $ emerge info Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.3.5, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.10 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.10 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.92.0.2-r1 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1-r2 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-xp -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -msse -mmmx -m3dnow -mfpmath=sse,387 -ffast-math" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-xp -funroll-loops -fprefetch-loop-arrays -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -msse -mmmx -m3dnow -mfpmath=sse,387 -ffast-math" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://mir.zyrianes.net/gentoo/ http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/gentoo/ http://gentoo.inode.at/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowex X aalib acl acpi alsa apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bluetooth caps cdr crypt cups curl directfb dvd dvdread emacs encode esd ethereal f77 fam flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gcj gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile hardened hbci i8x0 imagemagick imap imlib innodb irmc ithreads java jpeg junit libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx mmx2 motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl nvidia objc offensive oggvorbis opengl pam pdflib pic png quicktime readline ruby samba scanner sdl slang speex spell sqlite sse ssl svga tcpd tetex theora threads tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb xinerama xml xml2 xmms xv xvid zlib linguas_de"
Before a few moments I saw a TB 1.0 in Windows, that had the same problem as my TB in Gentoo Linux. Perhaps I should better ask for a solution at mozilla.org. If someone has a hint or knows the solution, please let me know.
1.0.5 is in the tree, test it and let us know. if it continues open a new bug.
