Elizabeth Fong sought advice since Andres Solomon reported Turck-MMCache as undistributable. The software has been abandoned upstream with an unresponsive developer, but forked. However, its license (GPL) is not compatible with the license of PHP4 which it needs to be linked against. In combination this means that Debian can not distribute binary packages of Turck-MMCache. Turck-MMCache can be removed from the tree after eAccelerator is in (any day now). I do not understand, however, the licensing issue.
See this discussion: http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=986362&forum_id=236228 "When Debian is distributing PHP and MMCache binaries as part of their distribution, they are violating the GPL licence." However, the end conclusion that doing it as source code instead of binaries is perfectly legal.
This is what I meant: We are a source-based distribution and are not affected by this. Closing as INVALID.
