i use the Radeondriver from Xorg (mainly for testing http://r300.sf.net). However i was never able to get DDC working, even if i tried Option "DDCMode" "on" (not in Xorg-6.7 or 6.8 or the latest CVS). In Xorgs-bugzilla is an entry for this, an patch is also provided. This works for me. I hope you will include this patch into your gentoo ebuild of xorg, as it seems that it wont go into cvs for a while. With this patch my DDC finally works.

Closing UPSTREAM for now to see what they do -- I don't plan to apply it here unless it gets into HEAD.

I'm not sure if this fix made it into 6.8.2 (should have), but it'll be in 7.0
at the very least.
