4-level page tables update on 2.6.11_rc1 breaks nvidia-kernel-6629-r1 compilation. I edited a patch to make it work on amd64 and i386, see the attachment.
Created attachment 48484 [details, diff] make nvidia-kernel work on 2.6.11_rc1
It seems minion.de have updated their patches to resolve this issue, i'm sure they are better than mine =)) See http://www.minion.de/files/1.0-6629

Patch applied in 6629-r2 test and confirm please.

s it possible to backport that patch to nvidia-kernel 1.0.6111-r3? I have an older Riva TNT2 so the 1.0-6629 drivers don't work for me (they cause severe video corruption, among other quirks). I'm using 2.6.11-rc2. Thanks.
With development-sources-2.6.11-rc2 and nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r2 it doesn't work. The error messages can be show at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=283986
"With development-sources-2.6.11-rc2 and nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r2" I can confirm this. It does not work.
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-6629-1201042.diff at the site Arnaud posted works w/ 2.6.11-rc2 for p4 and prescott / gcc-3.4.3.

fixed in -r3
Could this fix please be backported to nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111 (as nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r4)? nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629 is not stable for me and I had to reinstall my whole system due to a crash caused by it in the past.
In case anyone's still listening: can we please see this fix backported to 6111? Like the previous poster, I still don't use 6229 because of stability issues on my machine (nForce w/ built-in GeForce MX chip) with that release and later. Thanks.
I got 6111 working with Linux 2.6.11 by disabling AGPGART (I was building it as a module before and already used NvAGP instead).
If you have problems with nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629 (like I have with a Riva TNT2) then try to use nvidia-kernel-1.0.7167-r1 and nvidia-glx-1.0.7167-r1. You need to unmask them first! They work for me!
With a Radeon 9200 I have no further need for nVidia's drivers. I'm removing myself from the CC: list.
I can confirm that nvidia-kernel-1.0.7167-r1 and nvidia-glx-1.0.7167-r1 works for an ancient video card as a Riva TNT2 (I have this one :)). It seems, that nVidia reverted back a support for their old video-cards in their drivers, as they promised.
