Description John Richard Moser 2005-01-12 11:47:27 UTC
When Enigmail signs a message, it alters it in several ways including the following:

- Lines starting with "-" or " " start with "~"
- Lines starting with ">" start with "|"

I've tried disabling and enabling many options, including allowing flowed text and rewrapping HTML, but they don't change the behavior. Disabling signing of the outgoing message (I haven't tried encrypting a message yet) leaves the message as-is.

There is no obvious way to disable this, and the result looks like crap. This can be handled in one of at least 2 ways:

1) After over a year of this, finally tell me how to disable it (if it can be done), and document it somewhere
2) Correct or tell upstream to correct the situation, either by changing the default, moving the option (if there is one) to a more obvious location, or creating the option (if there isn't one)

I believe this is an enigmail issue, because it only happens when signing a message.

Check out the enigmail mailing list. This comes up fairly often, and is due to the RFCs that define PGP. See for example this message, although there are many others.

Try looking in the help/troubleshooting section of the enigmail site as well. It went down while I was writing this, so I can't give you a more specific link.

huh, odd, I had that option off. When I turned it off, the next message I sent immediately was still quoted that way; but I did it months ago, so may have been an older bug. The message in question was also already open. *shrug*

Or maybe I'm just dumb.

This doesn't seem to affect signing for me, maybe it should be OFF by default if everyone else has the same results?

This is upstream "feature", no business for Gentoo here.
