Live DVD 2004.3 two disk set does not include /distfiles/portage-2.0.51-r2.tar.bz2 on the first dvd Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Follow installation manual for networkless install 2. 3. Actual Results: /usr/portage/scripts/bootstrap.sh cannot locate portage-2.0.51-r2.tar.bz2 Expected Results: bootstrap should proceed the portage-2.0.51-r2.tar.bz2 can be located on the second dvd, but this deviates from the install guide instructions.
Live DVD 2004.3 docs should copy distfiles from both dvds during networkless install The DVD 1 does not contain all the needed distfiles for a networkless install.
I am not aware of Gentoo distributing any LiveDVD nor sets thereof.
I am referring to the product sold at the following http://store.gentoo.org/product_info.php?products_id=46 Gentoo Distfiles/Install 2-DVD Set
If using this 2 DVD set AND doing a networkless install the user should take steps to: 1 - Boot with docache option 2 - Copy disk 1 /distfiles/* to /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles/ 3 - Unmount disk 1 and mount disk 2 4 - copy disk 2 * to /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles/ 5 - Unmount disk 2 and mount disk 1 6 - Continue with instalation
Actually, the LiveDVD is a product of the Gentoo store and not Gentoo Linux. We do not provide documentation for it, nor did we create it. You would probably be best suited to send an email to drobbins@gentoo.org, as he runs the store, and let him know of the trouble, so he can ensure the next version of his DVD set will work for networkless installations.
But the DVD in question uses the standard documentation from Gentoo, I feel the best approach would be to include the above info for people who choose to use the DVD set. I have added drobbins@gentoo.org as a cc to this bug.
This isnt really a bug as the included documentation specifies a stage 3 install *ONLYY* for a networkless install. A stage3 install does not require the distfiles as stages 1 & 2 would have.
