I was just whining about this on the forums, so I resolved to send in a patch.

The ebuild could use some more einfo about some of proftpd's setup. Not the ebuild's fault of course, because the included package documentation makes little mention of this either.

Two things imo could be added as an einfo message to the ebuild to point the user in the right direction:

1) location of the anonymous user login directory
2) how to mount files in a jail for ftp users

For the first one, something like this should suffice:

"The home for anonymous login connections is /home/ftp"

And for the second,

"If you wish for your FTP users to see files outside the jailed directory, use mount -bind (see man mount for options), as symlinks will not work."

Okay, so I'm not the best at writing docs, but that's the general idea. I think it'd help out.

Steve

This is the kind of info that is in the Fine Manual.
The first one is /home/ftp if the anonymous user home is that (could be anything).

The second it is a docs thing. If you want the user jailled why would links work? Of course they do not.
