gentoo-2.6.9-r13 kernel makes synaptics touchpad unresponsive. #cat /dev/mouse vertifies no input. Vanilla 2.6.9 works with synaptics without additional patches or drivers. Tried patches and drivers with gentoo-2.6.9-r13 with no sucess. Have talked to others who have had same problem with synaptics touchpad and gentoo kernel. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use a synaptics touchpad 2. Use gentoo-2.6.9-r13 as kernel Actual Results: Synaptics touchpad unresponsive. Expected Results: Worked. =) Laptop: HP Pavilion zv5000 running GNOME, xorg. Nothing special, or abnormal.
I'm not sure which patch could be causing the problem. What was the last gentoo kernel that worked (or did you just switch from vanilla?), and does it work woth a 2.6.10 gentoo kernel?
Switched from vanilla 2.6.9. 2.6.10 untested, both vanilla and gentoo.
Could you try the 2.6.10-gentoo kernel? No need to go on a bug hunt if it is already fixed.
Re-compile of gentoo-2.6.9-r13 to include packet filtering seems to have caused the touchpad to spring to life. *shrug* Vanilla 2.6.9 was causing kernel panic at boot--problem with ndiswrapper and IRQ's. (My mobo's IRQ's are not 100% native. *mumbles something unintelligible about Bill Gates*) Gentoo kernel to the rescue. =)
Nm, gentoo-2.6.9-r13 is sill breaking my touchpad. I would use the vanilla 2.6.9, but I have, like I said, a kernel panic. I don't have this problem with the gentoo kernels; what patches have been applied to them? I'll be trying 2.6.10 soon.
Ok, I installed 2.6.10-gentoo-r4. Touchpad still swimming with the fishies. =)
Lol I'm fudging up the nice orderly fashion of bug-traq with my n00b nettiqute. Anyhow, I found Andrew Morton (and the gang's) 2.6.10-r1 to work quite nicely with the touchpad. Moreover, it dosen't panic when I enable packet filtering. (Running ESD on 16001. Never know when someone will find an exploit. =)
