Description Gareth Bult 2005-01-06 07:04:00 UTC
I seem to have two issues; (current portage x86 config)

1. booting via genkernel I get a warning message "setup_evms_plugin" not defined in the swap module

2. if I configure an LVMS2 volume on an MD1 device on an LVM? region on a DOS segment, then it's not seen at boot time, hence you can't use it as a root filesystem. If I take LVM? out of the equation, it then works ..

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:

2.

John you admitted to being a LVM lunatic, any chance you could provide some input here? :)

1) What version of evms2 do you have installed?

2) AFAIK, the only way to have root be on an md1 device (through evms) is to use an initrd. This is because evms needs to activate, discover, and create the /dev nodes.

Ok, I've found a solution to this.

EVMS2 will allow you to do things that are invalid, and as a result it looks like it doesn't work.

On recreating everything in a hierarchical manner using containers etc, it all seems to work quite happily, RAID1 as root is no problem.
