Adding video_cards_iris can allow for simpler configuration of newer iGPUs on Intel.  The mesa i965 driver will not be built.  i965 does not differentiate on any other package in ::gentoo repository.

I've gone the other way and am dropping VIDEO_CARDS=iris from Mesa.
