I am unable to gentoo on my machine because the boot cd does not include a driver for the via-rhine ethernet card. The gentoo install docs suggest that this be reported as a bug. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.boot 2.insmod via-rhine 3.pull out hair. Actual Results: failure to load via-rhine driver prevents me from actually doing an "emerge system" given that flash drives and floppies are available, it should be possible to put such drivers up for download, and not need to include them on the boot cd.
This is on the 2004.3-r1 CD, correct?
Have you tried the 2005.1 livecd?
# grep VIA_RHINE config-alpha-2.* config-alpha-2.4.30:CONFIG_VIA_RHINE=y config-alpha-2.4.30:# CONFIG_VIA_RHINE_MMIO is not set config-alpha-2.6.11.8:CONFIG_VIA_RHINE=y config-alpha-2.6.11.8:# CONFIG_VIA_RHINE_MMIO is not set It is enabled in 2005.1's CD, so I am marking this as RESOLVED-FIXED.
