Mysql has marked some times ago 4.1.8 as "Generally Available", now there is a version 4.1.8a too. At the url I've attached you an see all 4.1.8 related bugs. The 4.1.8 ebuild in portage tree from some time is working and installed from people. You can find at http://www.francesco-riosa.com/gentoo/ an ebuild version for 5.0 from bk tree that has also an implementation for utf8 use flags. At this point can we mark 4.1.8 as stable ? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Expected Results: have a stable 4.1 mysql version ;)
This will not happen for at least a month yet in ~arch even. There are still too many problems with MySQL-4.1 (see bug 62582, and compare the stats on bugs for MySQL-4.0.2[1234] on the URL you gave me). Not all of the problems are the fault of MySQL, a large number of them are with other packages since the API changes in 4.1 force applications to fix their code.
ok posted a possible solution #62582 #c52 , should be nice if someone took a look at it. And should be fantastic going to 2005.1 with a slotted mysql (only dreaming).
