Works fine from my overlay-portage :) Compiles and runs stable on my stable x86 and on my unstable ~sparc. It says on homepage that it requires GLU (masked in portage) but compiles and runs anyway.... I've made a few patches: *) x11-pathfix.patch - looks for libs and headers in /usr/X11R6/x instead of /usr/X11/x *) newlines.patch - Adds newlines at bottom of som c-files, makes gcc happy :) *) globe.c.pointerfix.patch - I'm no 1337-programmer, but when removing some &-signs in the code gcc went even more happy :) *) make_install.patch - Adds a very very UGLY install-target to the Makefile *) datadir_fix.patch - GLglobe now checks for maps and markers in /usr/share/glglobe instead of current directory Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge glglobe 2. 3. Actual Results: glglobe compiles, installs and runs nicely (from overlay-portage) Expected Results: GLglobe to make it to (stable?) portage :) # emerge info Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-linux/x86/2004.3, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r4 i686 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 distcc 2.16 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [enabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.21-r1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -mfpmath=sse -mmmx -msse -msse2 -mno-sse3 -mno-3dnow -funroll-loops -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/afs/C /etc/afs/afsws /etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -mfpmath=sse -mmmx -msse -msse2 -mno-sse3 -mno-3dnow -funroll-loops -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig buildpkg ccache cvs distcc distlocks keeptemp noauto noclean sandbox sfperms userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ds.thn.htu.se/linux/gentoo http://mirror.pudas.net/gentoo ftp://mirror.pudas.net/gentoo ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo http://gentoo.gehlin.com/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://sparcux.lmera.ericsson.se/gentoo-portage" USE="X X509 acl afs alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bmp cdparanoia cdr crypt cups dga divx4linux dvb encode esd ethereal extensions fam foomaticdb fortran gd gd-external gdbm gif gmp gnome gnutls gpm graphviz gstreamer gtk gtk2 imagemagick imap imlib ipv6 ithreads java jpeg jpeg2k kde kerberos krb4 ldap libwww live lm_sensors lz lzo lzw-tiff mad md5sum mikmod mmap mmx motif mozilla mpeg mysql mysqli nas ncurses network nls nntp nocardbus oggvorbis opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline rrdtool rtc samba sasl sdl sftplogging sndfile snmp sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tga theora threads tiff truetype unicode v4l v4l2 vhosts vim-with-x wmf x86 xine xinerama xml2 xmms xosd xprint xscreensaver xv xvid zlib zvbi"

Well; now, over three months since last comment on this "bug", that list hasn't changed very much now, has it? :/ /disappointed Charlie
Hi Charlie, I know it's frustrating to have new scientific packages added so slowly to the tree. We're not ignoring you, we're just overloaded. Suggested enhancements assigned to the science herd number in the hundreds. We're a very small number of developers, and just maintaining the current packages up to date (and fixing bugs) requires quite some work. A new package needs to be maintained, its bugs must fixed, etc. Also, GLGlobe is only at version 0.2 now. Its author says it is "very alpha". Why not wait for a more stable and full-featured version?
Closing this one, WONTFIX, project outdated, URL offline/cached :/
