Description gabe parmer 2002-09-08 14:22:37 UTC

for complete details.

emerge xfree (which tried to emerge
/usr/portage/x11-base/xfree/xfree-4.2.0-r12.ebuild) does not work exiting with
error 2. cp : XftConfig : Argument list too long. I have emerge rsync, emerge
-u world. I have tried to do it about 8 times trying to emerge -u different
things, and each time it gets that same error. using gcc 2.95.3 or whatever the
default is in gentoo 1.2.

Do the following:

# USE="-acl" emerge fileutils

and try again.

I just tried your suggestion it exited with the same error. Would it be easier
for me to simply rebuild the distribution from stage 1 again using the default
"use" options? (without gnome or kde as I want to use icewm)
Comment 3 gabe parmer 2002-09-10 20:28:43 UTC
I got tired of X not working so I redid the distribution using a vanilla kernel
and USE settings closer to the defaults (and ext3 instead of xfs), and it works
fine. I dont know what the problem was. Sorry, but I got very frustrated
trying to figure it out.

Thanks for all the help, I LOVE your distribution.
