Description Phil Rigby 2021-01-14 21:42:15 UTC
Trying to do an emerge -auDN @world for a few days now, keep getting this (I rsync once a day):

I've never done anything to package files since I built this machine about 15 months ago, orinally I installed the kdeplasma-meta (I think it is, the build that pulls down pretty much everything) and have just done updates as they came along... now I get the above.

Bugzilla is really ill-suited for such support questions. You're not giving us full output to work with here as well, so we can only guess.

Likely you have one of two problems:
1) Polluted world file insisting on a last-rited package
2) Too low --backtrack value for this update (this is often recommended by emerge at the end)

For 1), run emerge --deselect "kde-frameworks/*"
For 2), add something like --backtrack=100 to your emerge command
Comment 2 Phil Rigby 2021-01-14 21:56:56 UTC
That pretty much is all the output that I see (I cut off a few lines because of the char limit, but it was only more of what you already see). If there's a better way to report it, please let me know how.

If the world file is polluted, then it's portage that's done it - I never, ever mess with files like that.

I will try both your suggestions in order then report back...
Thanks!

All of it matters.

It would've been added by e.g. 'emerge ...' without '-1' or '--oneshot'. The forums or IRC (#gentoo) is best for this, but please include *full* output, it really helps.

Doing the:
emerge --deselect "kde-frameworks/*"
>>> No matching atoms found in "world" favorites file...

Doing the emerge with the backtrack has got the update running (currently on 8 of 156) but I can also see it's complaining about Python in the same manner it is with KDE.

Is there a way I can clean up world without breaking anything?

Is it updating or complaining about python? I'm confused. ;)

No need to, it seems, as you got your emerge going.
