Can you try disabling distcc and ccache? (FEATURES="-distcc -ccache")

Hmm its a bit odd of a case. I rsycned and left distcc disabled as it already was and ccache enabled as it already was and re-emerged it and it worked fine this time. Not quite sure what was up but it happened more than once. Maybe a bad ebuild? I did restart in between as well.
