The URL is a link to the forum post where I originally had the problem. However after doing several things to try to fix it, it own't work. So it's a bug.
Still an issue? Check package.mask to ensure things aren't masked out. That would make the packages downgrade.
After manually unmerging the protected (old) versions the problem went away. If no one else has the same bug then I see no reason to leave this bug report open...
Same Problem here: 1) I installed icewm-1.2.2 and gkrellm-2.0.4 manually (both were not maked) after that i tried an emerge --update world and now emerge will downgrade to the old version. (Don
Same Problem here: 1) I installed icewm-1.2.2 and gkrellm-2.0.4 manually (both were not maked) after that i tried an emerge --update world and now emerge will downgrade to the old version. (Don´t know why) 2) I got nearly the same problem with an other package. The emerge --update world --deep also wants to downgrade. This time i found the reason: There was in /var/cache/edb a file whith an "not optimal dep definition" - this file just want´s a specific (=package). After fixing this (with >=package) emerge works fine again. @Techie2000 Manually unmerging the old versions doesn´t solve this problem (for me - or i am blind) -> i am using gentoo 1.4-rc1
You are 'manually' installing. What does that mean. There is a new masking scheme using ~. I'm guessing you're forcing installs on masked packages, and then emerge is trying to install the unmasked ones.
Need responses to provide fixes. Reopen if this is still an issue.
