The source-code of XFree86 and xorg are patched to make the background black. These makes it impossible to restore the standard X background with xsetroot -def. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. run xorg with default configuration. 2. run xsetroof -def 3. Actual Results: xsetroof -def has no effect. Expected Results: xsetroot -def should set the standard X background, the greyish grid. A black background can be done through configuration files (xsetroot -solid black in the system xinitrc, for instance). The source code shouldn't be patched for this.
Hmm, wonder how that happened. I would've sworn I pulled that.
The source is no longer patched in current xorg; just -br is added to the default startx args.
