Description John Bobbertson 2020-12-31 14:16:12 UTC
Kernel: 5.4.80

I want to configure naturalscrolling among other things (especially palm rejection) with this new laptop but cannot actually set the associated properties.

According to libinput documentation I can set properties of my input device via xinput --set-prop [device] [prop] newprop

which works on some properties but not on touchpad properties. I realize that in documentation the pointer device has the string touchpad in it whereas mine simply says wheelmouse. I believe this misidentification is why setting touchpad properties is failing.

There doesn't seem to be any driver for this particular touchpad so maybe this is why its being identified in this generic way and not supporting touchpad features.

Please advise.

It is sad to read that you have problems with Linux on a Dell XPS.
I suggest to contact the Dell support and Dell Forums first.

The situation seems to be a bit more complicate and requires some analysis.
We can not help you efficiently via bug tracker. The bug tracker aims rather on specific problems in .ebuilds and less on individual systems.

I have had very good experience on the gentoo IRC [1] with questions like this. Of course there are also forums and mailing lists [2,3].
I hope you understand, that I will close the bug here therefore and wish you good luck on one of the mentioned channels [4].
Please reopen the ticket in order to provide an indication for an specific error in an ebuild or any gentoo related product.
