Description Chris Smith 2004-12-29 11:35:03 UTC
After upgrading to KDE 3.3.2 and Kmail 1.7.2 (via the kdepim ebuild) the Kmail preview pane is inoperative about 65% of the time in a random fashion.

According to the KDE developers the bug (88511) has been fixed (see the URI posted above) and the patch should be included in an updated kmail/kdepim ebuild.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Run kmail
2.click on message headers
3.

Actual Results:
randomly the message body does not appear in the preview pane

Expected Results:
message body should always appear in the preview pane

The kde bug report doesn't really make it clear "what" was fixed.

Can you whip up a patch?
Comment 2 Chris Smith 2004-12-29 11:59:06 UTC
I agree that it isn't clear and there's no link to a patch in the bug report.

Someone must know something, the Debian group appears to have it resolved:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=281705

Whipping up a patch is outside my limited realm of expertise.

Debian's fix

Proposed patch - need some feedback on it, as I don't have this bug locallyy.
Comment 4 Chris Smith 2004-12-29 15:01:27 UTC
Initial indications are that the patch solves the problem.

Why isn't the patch in CVS ?
Comment 10 Chris Smith 2005-04-20 07:35:55 UTC
>Why isn't the patch in CVS ?

I have no clue who makes those decisions, I'm just a user who needed a fix. I used the proposed patch and ebuild successfully on several systems.
As a note, the problem is fixed in kde 3.4.

> Why isn't the patch in CVS ?

Time, testing environment (I for one don't use imap). Also I guess everyone expected a bugfix release together with KDE 3.4.

Herd: Since the svn conversion seems to take quite a some time, we can('t) wait for ages. Does anyone oppose against commiting the fix?
Comment 12 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-25 12:28:35 UTC
Fine with me - I use imap extensively, but I'm not on 3.3.2 anymore

>but I'm not on 3.3.2 anymore

Same here. We need at least one dedicated test box - and someone who cares for it. :)
