Description Kit Fenderson-Peters 2004-12-29 07:17:28 UTC
When I start gtk-gnutella, I get the following message:

*** ANCIENT VERSION DETECTED! ***

Sorry, this program is too ancient to run without
an explicit user action: please edit the file

        /home/took/.gtk-gnutella/config_gnet

and set the variable "ancient_version_force" to
"gtk-gnutella/0.94 (2004-07-10; GTK2; Linux 2.6.9 i686)".

You will then be able to run this version forever, but
please consider upgrading, as Gnutella is an evolving
network, where ancient versions are less performant, if
not harmful!

i also have this problem. i've emerged gtk-gnutella-0.95, and it still occurs. before this happened (at month ago), the program's "about" said it was 0.94, even though i emerged 0.95. i've emerge -C'd it and reemerged, to no avail

Comment 2 Hans de Graaff gentoo-dev Security 2005-05-28 09:20:59 UTC
Note that gtk-gnutella 0.94 is really too old. The Gnutella network has evolved
since its release, and as a consequence 0.94 will give bad results both for the
user and the network when used. Please see bug #91697 for information on new
gtk-gnutella versions and updated ebuilds.
Comment 3 Karol Wojtaszek (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-06-23 14:59:31 UTC
Fixed with 0.95.3 release, which is in portage.
