I am lacking eselect news. eselect news list outputs nothing. Only some removed old news. So, some time ago it worked. Probably because there is no news/ directory in my git based repo below /var/db/repos/gentoo/metadata/ (anymore?). FYI: I have sync-uri = https://anongit.gentoo.org/git/repo/gentoo.git in /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo.conf. I've found a separate git repo https://gitweb.gentoo.org/data/gentoo-news.git but no hint whether or how that's to be included. This must be something trivial...
You are using the wrong repo, you want repo/sync/gentoo.git which has all metadata added in
