The dependency for gdk-pixbuf in lives is unnecessary at least for 0.9.1, as gdk-pixbuf is integrated in gtk2, so please remove it, to prevent emerge from asking for installing gnome 1.4 components.

It work well, if you simply remove the dependency line

1. remove the line media-libs/gdk-pixbuf from the ebuild
2. emerge lives
3.

Actual Results:  
everything work great

I would just say that I agree. I hope to one day have all gtk 1.x / gnome 1.x libraries removed from my machine. media-libs/gdk-pixbuf is a gtk 1.x library and makes no sense to depend on, unless you compile for gtk 1.x
