see below Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start xfce 2. run mozilla Actual Results: mozilla starts up ok and connects to remote sites ok, but "vanishes" as soon as the remote site starts sending data back. if I run mozilla in a terminal window, I get messages that like this one : $ mozilla Gdk-ERROR **: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) serial 8559 error_code 3 request_code 2 minor_code 0 $ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-linux/x86/2004.0, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.4.26 i586) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.26 i586 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.21-r1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=k6-3 -mmmx -m3dnow -Os -pipe" CHOST="i586-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=k6-3 -mmmx -m3dnow -Os -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://chod.cwru.edu/gentoo:http://gentoo.ccccom.com:ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://ftp6.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://vlaai.snt.ipv6.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo/ http://gentoo.tiscali.nl/gentoo/ http://mirrors.tds.net/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X acl adns alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts crypt cscope cups encode esd fam flac foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 guile imagemagick imlib ipv6 jpeg libwww mad mikmod motif mpeg mysql ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype xml xml2 xmms xv zlib"
works for me
The mozilla that I am talking about is http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7.5/mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.7.5-installer.tar.gz Is this the mozilla that works for you with xfce4 on gentoo? Of the WMs I have installed on my gentoo system, this "official" mozilla binary works for me with xfce(3) and blackbox but not with gnome or xfce4 or windowmaker. The same binary also works (on the same machine) with xfce4 on slackware10 and (on a different machine) with xfce4 on fedora rc3. --
Try rebuilding the windowmanager component of XFCE4 with -O2 rather than -Os.
I can run mozilla (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7.11) Gecko/20050824) fine on xfce4 (latest stable) ... but when I switch to another virtual desktop and comes back, it displays weird trailing characters, and need me to click on another tab to make it display normal again. Just signaling this ... if it has any relation ... imsg3-mx ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.3.5-20050130, glibc-2.3.5-r1, 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.10 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O3 -march=pentium4 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.gg3.net/ http://mirror.averse.net/pub/gentoo/" LANG="fr_FR.utf8" LC_ALL="fr_FR.utf8" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.asia.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X aac aalib alsa apache2 apm avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bmp browserplugin buttons bzip2 bzlib caps cdparanoia cdr cjk crypt cups curl dedicated directfb divx4linux dvd dvdread eds emboss encode escreen exif fbcon firefox flac flash foomaticdb fortran fusesuid gd gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 howl imagemagick imlib innodb ipv6 jabber java javascript jit jpeg junit libg++ libwww lm_sensors lzo matroska mbox memlimit mikmod mime mmx mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql nas ncurses nls nocd nowin nptl nvidia ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl php png python quicktime readline real ruby samba sdl shared sharedmem sockets socks5 sox spell sqlite sse sse2 ssl startup-notification stroke svga szip tcltk tcpd thumbnail tiff toolbar truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb videos vorbis win32codecs wmf xchatdccserver xine xinerama xml xml2 xmms xpm xv xvid yahoo zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS
