When updating my system for the first time in a few days, I encountered app-text/dgs as a blocker.  Upon investigating it seemed that xorg-x11 needed it, and the required package doesn't appear to be in portage as of my sync a few minutes ago.

I apologize, I got confused when I couldn't find the package.  I simply did 'emerge -C dgs' and all is well.  Marking closed.
