Description Michelangelo Scopelliti 2020-11-01 12:43:00 UTC
I'm a libressl user. When compiling avogadro2, the compile phase fails at [14/14] with a warning:

/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/10.2.0/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: /usr/lib64/libQt5Network.so.5.15.1: warning: EVP_CipherFinal is often misused, please use EVP_CipherFinal_ex and EVP_CIPHER_CTX_cleanup

Since cmake/CompilerFlags.cmake degfines

-Wl,--fatal-warnings

this warning becomes a compilation failure.

Removing such flags, or converting it to --no-fatal-warnings fixes the issue.

Reproducible: Always

should this be linked to #651228?

It seems to me it's a too strict request by the package authors: it's a warning, not an error. Just my opinion.
Comment 3 Michelangelo Scopelliti 2020-11-25 15:42:52 UTC
to add something to comment #2:

according to the Gentoo development manual, chapter "Common Mistakes", there is a section concerning the "-werror" removal. I think that, for a production package, "-Wl,--fatal-warnings" falls in the same category: it's not exactly the same thing, but it falls in the same rationale.

As always, just my opinion.
