I think the handbook should menti under 'Setting the Date/Time Right', that an easy way of getting the current date in the right form is to run 'date +%m%d%H%M%Y' on another machine.

Taken the time to read it, type it in on the new system, this doesn't provide any additional advantage above the existing instructions. 

I am hoping that ntpdate gets to the LiveCD though. It's scheduled for discussion at least.
