Booting the 2004.3 LiveCD with the vga=788 (to make the resolution 800x600 16-bit) results in a somewhat naked framebuffer and the error message "Failed to load image /etc/splash//livecd-2004.3/images/verbose-800x600.jpg. This is due to that this file does not exist. Was it forgotten when the livecd was made? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot 2004.3 LiveCD 2. Type gentoo vga=788 3. Watch the whole process until it stops Actual Results: The error message appears peacefully. The LiveCD functions normally, other than the framebuffer images does not load. Tux is in the left corner though. Expected Results: I expected the nice looking framebuffer I usually get when using 1024x768. This is an old laptop with a monitor that prevents me from using resolutions higher than 800x600. That's why I have to use a lower resolution.
Actually, we removed the non-1024x768 versions on purpose to save space. This one, I am keeping as WONTFIX because I have no plans on adding the non-1024x768 versions back to the LiveCD.
How much difference does a jpg-file in 800x600 make? I'm certain that there's undoubtedly sufficient space available for this feature.
The image is not neccessary for the functionality of the cd. Against that fact a livecd as small as possible _is_ important and every byte counts. Lots of work has been put to minimize the livecd as much as possible. The majority of users has hardware capable of displaying modes >=1024x768 so we'll keep the splashscreen-setup as it is now.
