TightVNC 1.3_alpha5 dont work on my amd64. It refuses to start Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge tightvnc 2. execute /usr/bin/vncserver 3. Actual Results: VNCSERVER gives this output: Couldn't start Xvnc; trying default font path. Please set correct fontPath in the vncserver script. Couldn't start Xvnc process. And my /var/log/everything/current tell me this: Dec 20 12:40:17 [su(pam_unix)] session opened for user ryceck by root(uid=0) Dec 20 12:40:17 [su] PAM pam_putenv: delete non-existent entry; REMOTEHOST Dec 20 12:40:17 [PAM-env] Unknown PAM_ITEM: <DISPLAY> Dec 20 12:40:17 [su] PAM pam_putenv: delete non-existent entry; DISPLAY Dec 20 12:40:17 [PAM-env] Unknown PAM_ITEM: <XAUTHORITY> Dec 20 12:40:17 [su] PAM pam_putenv: delete non-existent entry; XAUTHORITY Dec 20 12:40:20 [kernel] Xvnc[11337]: segfault at ffffffff960ae1c8 rip 0000002a95effe9b rsp 0000007fbfffeed0 error 4 Expected Results: Work like a charm and make my computer remote accessible Portage 2.0.51-r8 (default-linux/amd64/2004.3, gcc-3.4.3, glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r0, 2.6.9-nitro4 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-nitro4 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.8 Python: dev-lang/python-2.3.4 [2.3.4 (#1, Dec 11 2004, 09:34:47)] dev-lang/python: 2.3.4 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.59-r6, 2.13 sys-devel/automake: 1.8.5-r2, 1.5, 1.4_p6, 1.6.3, 1.7.9, 1.9.3 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r2 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.10-r2 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.8.1-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig ccache distlocks sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/linux/gentoo http://gentoo.osuosl.org http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X acpi alsa berkdb bitmap-fonts cdparanoia cdr crypt divx4linux dvd dvdr dvdread f77 fam fortran gif gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jp2 jpeg kde ldap lzw lzw-tiff mad mpeg multilib ncurses network nls oggvorbis opengl pam perl png python qt readline samba sdl ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype usb userlocales xml2 xmms xpm xrandr xv xvid zlib" Compiled vncserver with USE="java tcpd" just because that was the default for my system. Haven't tried without them, dont see why that would cause any problems
Also tried a few things like commenting out the problem parts in /etc/security/pam_env.conf (decomment the XAUTHORITY and DISPLAY), but this does indeed make the PAM-errors go away.... but tightvnc still crashes
with which version of xorg-x11 was this? can you reproduce this with 6.8.0-r4?
