OPAL might be on its way out (in the Windows world Microsoft essentially gave it a kiss of death when they recommended *everyone* to switch to software full-disc encryption in response to OPAL implementation on *some* SSDs having been found weak, and on the Linux front the Drive Trust Alliance has effectively been abandoned upstream and their PBA image doesn't even boot e.g. on Ryzen systems) but there are still quite a few drives around which support it. It might therefore be useful to have sedutil included in Gentoo images, for which (I was told in #gentoo-dev yesterday) we need a stable version.
