Description Michael E. Adams 2004-12-15 08:52:09 UTC
grub-static is missing on the 2004.3-r1 release. Can't do a non-connected installation.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Follow live-CD installation up to grub
2. emerge --usepkg grub-static

3.

Actual Results:
Can't show results. My system was dead! I had to configure networking and get
grub from a mirror.

I have reported this kind of stuff before. I have never been able to do a
non-connected gentoo installation! I can't install gentoo on my systems at work
without being able to do it non-connected.

Expected Results:
A happy non-connected gentoo installations.

Comment 1 Jason Huebel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-30 18:20:07 UTC
grub-static is no longer required for multilib-enabled amd64 installs. multilib is enabled by default in the 2004.3 stages (and should be left that way). You should now emerge grub from sources.
Comment 2 Michael E. Adams 2004-12-31 06:24:00 UTC
Hold on...

If this is so, how about getting the documentation folks to fix the documentation.
What am I supposed to do now that I installed grub-static because the documentation told me too? This hasn't been resolved if the documentation doesn't get fixed and wasn't invalid because it was reported using bad documentation.
Comment 3 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-31 07:03:01 UTC
Michael is exactly correct. The documentation needs to be changed.
Comment 4 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-11 09:27:42 UTC
Fixed in CVS. Sorry that this took so long, I hoped others would make this trivial change for me.
