What happens if you run with FEATURES="userpriv"? It seems there are some strange environment variables meddling with the build process. Could you also give the output of "emerge info"? By any chance are you using a different shell from bash or a beta version?

Ah well, Openoffice does not work on amd64 machines (yet). If you would want to work on it the first thing would be to patch the configuration scripts to recognize the amd64 architecture. Openoffice does run on sparc64 machines so the changes should not be too big. Also the 2.0 version supposedly compiles on amd64 machines.

Alternatively you could look at determining what is needed to compile openoffice with multilib 32bit support as a 32bit application.

If you want to contribute any such patches, please reopen the bug.
