Description Stefano 2020-09-16 16:01:46 UTC
On the Dell XPS 15 9500 the default suspend behavior is s2idle, which is not great for power consumption. Switching it to deep sleep (S3) however leads the system in a state where upon wake up it freezes with a Dell logo and must be force-restarted.

These threads describe the issue:
https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Suspend-and-hibernate-issues-on-XPS-15-9500-on-Linux/td-p/7646809

https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxhardware/comments/guhz5f/xps_15_9500_s3_deep_sleep_not_working/

I tried combination of the suggestions from other models, notably disabling sign of life and also tried disabling all of the security features for a test, but to no avail.

I think this is something that must be fixed upstream, but maybe there are workarounds that can be implemented at distribution level?

Reproducible: Always

You can fix it locally and developers can fix it in the repository,
if you have a patch and can name the exact broken package.
Please reopen if you have additional information.
