Hello Devs. After updating to media-libs/libglvnd because eselect-opengl is not supported anymore glu has to be recompiled but it fails with: hecking for GL... no checking GL/gl.h usability... yes checking GL/gl.h presence... yes checking for GL/gl.h... yes checking for glBegin in -lGL... no configure: error: GL required Any hints how to solve this? cheers, t. Very strange. Could you show me the output of > emerge virtual/opengl media-libs/mesa media-libs/libglvnd and > qlist media-libs/mesa | grep libGL and > qlist media-libs/libglvnd | grep libGL (qlist is part of app-portage/portage-utils if you do not have it installed) Also, in the build directory of glu, there is a config.log file. It should be at /var/tmp/portage/media-libs/glu-9.0.1/work/glu-9.0.1-abi_x86_64.amd64/config.log. Please attach that file. It will probably offer more insight into why the particular check failed.

It appears that you have mesa and libglvnd built with USE=-X. Is that intentional? media-libs/glu depends on virtual/opengl. virtual/opengl-7.0-r2 depends on mesa with USE=X enabled, but I see that you have virtual/opengl-7.0-r1 which is no longer in the tree. So this failure is only possible because your virtual/opengl is more than a year old; otherwise it would have forced you to enable USE=X for Mesa. I'm actually surprised that mesa provides a libGL.so with USE=-X. Basically, there's no way to trigger this bug today, so I'm not sure it's something I can fix. The only question for me is whether it's worth fixing media-libs/glu to check for libOpenGL from libglvnd rather than libGL (which shouldn't be present if using USE=-X).
Well it worked until now. :-) It's a server which runs a quake3 arena server. But I guess I can live with enabling the X useflag. Thanks again. cheers, t.
After enabling the X useflag for mesa and libglvnd glu compiled fine.
