All, I would like to request that we switch the non-systemd default udev provider in virtual/libudev and virtual/udev to sys-fs/udev. I am not asking that we lastrites eudev; I just think it is better over all for us to use udev as the default. Let me know what procedures I should follow. Do we need ml discussion? If so, which ml should I post to? Thanks, William
I went ahead and opened a discussion on -dev for this: https://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/message/8dbfbc64bcc6a8ac67b832dab1eaf5a2
I personally think that council@ does not have to be involved into the decision if there is no strong opposition. You could send an RFC patch to change a default and work on specific complains. If all the maintainers of virtual/ packages agree on the plan I don't see a reason not to let them collectively do it.
I saw a conversation in IRC a few days ago with @blueness where the topic of patching sys-fs/udev so that it will work on non-glibc systems came up. If that happens, sys-fs/eudev will become irrelivent.
I haven't heard any more from blueness, but I'm willing to work with him without council involvement, so feel free to close this.
