Description PL Hayes 2004-12-06 03:47:40 UTC
Relative to the 0.80.2 version, this version has exhibited poor performance: the new font handling seems to have made off-screen menu scrolling very slow (depending on the font used in the menu) - some of the text in WPrefs is cut off above and below too. The mouse cursor (silver x) now annoyingly flickers heavily when there is a lot of disk activity, Screen updating seems much slower now, especially when dragging windows across each other.
Comment 1 PL Hayes 2004-12-20 22:40:52 UTC
The screen updating issue is not windowmaker specific. It happens with fluxbox too so I think it may be an xorg-x11 problem. Same goes for the mouse-cursor flickering.

seems I maintain windowmaker now ;-) reassigning
Comment 3 Armando Di Cianno (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-12 14:47:04 UTC
The screen flickering, as far as I can tell, is definitely related to Xorg more so than WindowMaker itself.

I'll keep this bug open for a good while longer, especially to test with Xorg-6.8.X whenever that stabilizes across different arches. However, in the end, not sure if there's much that can be done.

things do seem incredibly speedy with Xorg-6.8.2.

I'm not sure if this bug is still valid -- if I don't hear back soon-ish, I'm going to marked this bug closed.
Comment 5 PL Hayes 2005-03-17 18:40:31 UTC
No - close it: the performance problems are not specific to this WM and may be caused by the memory leak bug #82073. Only the WPrefs text cut-off is a windowmaker specific bug.

Checking into text getting cut off in WPrefs.app (trying to recreate it, but can't), but otherwise, this bug is now closed.

mis labeled reason, reopening
Comment 8 Armando Di Cianno (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-17 19:21:54 UTC
"invalid" so far as performance issues aren't related to WM.
