Description J.Borme 2020-07-28 00:41:13 UTC
getmail-5.14 is pending removal in the tree due to being python2. The masking message says one needs to port it to python3. Thankfully, someone ported it and made the code available: https://github.com/getmail6/getmail6

It is already included in archlinux: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/getmail6/

The new maintainer did not release tarballs yet. It would be awesome if we could have the ported python3 version as -9999 (git version) in the tree so that users are not left without anything.

I tested the git version with python 3.7.8-r2 and 3.8.4, it does the job without any configuration change the user (my tested use case is POP3 with gmail and office365).

Reproducible: Always

Don't know the status but believe there's already work toward this, see:

How is this progressing now that it's the middle of September, it's the only package holding me up from dumping Python 2.7.

Thanks, and sorry for the noise.

https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/17239 needs updating with some minor style changes by the author.

This package is now available again (under its old name, net-mail/getmail).

Thank you for your patience!
